25TH MARCH
Våffeldagen / The Waffle Day
Waffles are eaten all the year round in Sweden but they are particularly popular on the 25th of March when Sweden celebrates Våffeldagen - Waffle Day.
This day speaks for itself, eat waffles, the more the better!
Swedish Waffles are normally made in a specific waffle maker that makes each waffle look like five heart-shaped pieces, stuck together in a circle. They're served with with jam and cream.
What's the deal? Well originally this day was a religious celebration of Vårfrudagen ‘Our Lady’s Day’. When the word Vårfrudagen is said faster, sounds like Våffeldagen ‘Waffle day’ so over time Swedes began celebrating it by eating waffles.
